Former General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, is urging political parties not to exploit the plight of those affected by the Akosombo Dam spill.
The dam began overflowing last month, impacting nearly 26,000 people who have been relocated to safe shelters within the affected constituencies.
Rev. Dr. Opuni-Frimpong called on politicians to refrain from politicizing the suffering of these people, emphasizing that their situation requires swift action and humanitarian assistance. He encouraged Ghanaians to contribute to helping those affected, stressing the importance of unity and support during such crises. Several organizations, including the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, have already started providing aid.
Additionally, Rev. Dr. Opuni-Frimpong stressed the need for accountability from those who were consulted before the spill, particularly in relation to the extent of the destruction caused.
