SML Condemns Unannounced Raid on Office

Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), a key private sector partner in Ghana’s petroleum monitoring and revenue assurance framework, has strongly condemned the unannounced raid conducted on its Osu and Tema offices by operatives from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and National Security on Tuesday, June 10.

According to SML, the coordinated operation involved the removal of critical IT equipment, proprietary technologies, and sensitive documents. The company further alleges that some staff members were temporarily detained and assaulted during the incident, raising concerns about the potential disruption to Ghana’s petroleum oversight and national revenue systems.

SML emphasized that it has been fully cooperative with the OSP since March 2025, supplying all requested documentation under existing confidentiality agreements. The company described the sudden operation—conducted without prior notice or presentation of a legal warrant—as “unwarranted” and potentially damaging to both its operations and the broader national interest.

Among the items seized or damaged were critical servers and gold analyzers essential to SML’s real-time petroleum monitoring and auditing services for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). The company reported that the incident has resulted in the suspension of real-time fuel movement tracking, disruption of automated volume reconciliation systems, and the halting of 24/7 surveillance at 26 petroleum depots. These services, SML noted, have helped reduce fuel volume discrepancies by 92%, contributing an estimated GHS 20 billion in additional revenue to the state since 2020.

SML warned that continued operational downtime could result in tax revenue losses of up to GHS 348 million per month, undermining national fiscal stability. It also raised alarms about the unauthorized removal of its proprietary intellectual property—assets developed through significant private investment—which, the company claims, were taken without clear legal safeguards.

In a formal appeal, SML urged the Ghana Revenue Authority, Ministry of Finance, and other key stakeholders to engage more closely with security agencies, ensure the swift restoration of disrupted systems, and protect fair administrative processes. The company emphasized the importance of balancing transparency with innovation and the sanctity of public-private collaboration.

“Ghana’s development has thrived on strategic public-private partnerships,” SML’s management stated. “We remain committed to advancing national interests through lawful service, technological innovation, and institutional cooperation. The dismantling of the country’s only independent real-time petroleum monitoring system threatens years of progress in revenue assurance.”

SML concluded by expressing hope that the current situation could serve as a platform for dialogue rather than conflict, affirming its belief in Ghana’s institutional ability to resolve the matter in a manner that upholds due process, innovation, and good governance.
