Saka Salia, a Communications Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) member, has dismissed allegations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against his party.
He stated that the governing party is not engaging in “state capture,” as the opposition claims, and criticized the NDC for misleading Ghanaians.
Speaking on Adwene Pa on Original TV with host Kwaku Owusu Adjei (Pato) on Thursday, Saka asserted that it is actually the NDC and its allies who have been purchasing most of the state assets they now claim are being sold.
“Perpetrators have now turned themselves into victims,” he said, emphasizing that the NDC’s accusations are baseless.
These comments come amid protests against the sale of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust’s (SSNIT) 60% stake in four hotels to Rock City Hotel Limited, owned by Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong.
Saka Salia clarified that the sale of state assets is more complex than the opposition portrays. He explained that contrary to claims, the sale involves SSNIT divesting 60% of its stake in Rock City Hotel Limited, which does not equate to a complete divestment of SSNIT’s properties but is rather a strategic move to optimize its holdings.
He noted that SSNIT contributors have not benefited from the hotels in question, undermining the opposition’s accusations of foul play.
Salia criticized the recent demonstration, suggesting that many participants were misinformed about the facts. He also pointed out that the buying and selling of SSNIT properties is not new and occurred during the NDC’s tenure as well.
He accused the opposition of politicizing the issue to misinform the public and incite unnecessary fear and outrage.
