The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is harnessing digitalization to enhance its service delivery, with a particular focus on increasing enrollment among individuals in the informal sector. This effort is part of a broader initiative to scale up operations, which has already led to a significant rise in enrollments since last year.

During the launch of new digital platforms at the Mobile Service Week in the Central Region, SSNIT’s Director General, Kofi Bosompem Osafo Maafo, announced that 100,000 new informal sector contributors have registered with SSNIT. This follows the successful enrollment of 13,000 informal workers last year through the Self-Employed Enrollment Drive (SEED) program.

The SEED program is designed to facilitate the enrollment of both small- and large-scale informal workers and entrepreneurs, ensuring that they can access the best pension benefits. Currently, contributors from the informal sector make up only one percent of SSNIT’s total contributors.

Mr. Osafo Maafo encouraged individuals in the informal sector to join SSNIT, emphasizing that it offers the best pension benefits and guarantees the security of investments. He also highlighted that SSNIT has undergone significant structural reforms, resulting in the prompt payment of benefits.

The newly launched digital platform will enable self-enrollment, allow contributors to track their contributions, and access other SSNIT services more easily. Speaking to Metro News, SSNIT’s Senior Manager for IT Applications Development, Felix Joseph Bruce-Smith, explained that the platform offers a range of services, including online member enrollment using the Ghana Card, contribution processing and payments, employer registration, and compliance certificate management. These advancements are expected to improve the accessibility and efficiency of SSNIT’s services.
