The Accra High Court has been informed that the damage to the Tema-Mpakadan train, which was involved in an accident, is estimated at $2,138,466.66.

Four accused individuals are standing trial for causing damage to the train, which was intended to operate on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line.

According to the prosecution, the accused were transporting concrete blocks from Juapong to Abutia in the Volta Region on the day of the accident. After delivering the blocks, they attempted to cross the railway line as a shortcut, but their truck became stuck after they placed stones on the rail line.

At that time, the Railway Authority was conducting a test run of the train on the same rail line, leading to a collision and significant damage to the train.

The accused are facing four charges: using a railway line in violation of the Railway Act, endangering persons on the train, using the railway line contrary to the Railway Act, and causing unlawful damage.

They have pleaded not guilty to the charges and have been granted bail of GH¢200,000 with one surety to be justified.

The case has been adjourned to June 27.
