Ghana’s amputee football team, the Black Challenge, has successfully defended their title by winning the 2024 Amputee Africa Cup of Nations tournament held in Cairo, Egypt.

The team triumphed over Morocco 2-1 in the final match on Monday, staging a remarkable comeback in the second half and extra time to secure the victory.

This victory marks their third continental title in two years, following their win in the previous edition in 2021 and the inaugural African Para Games in September 2023.

Head Coach Stephen Richard Obeng expressed pride and gratitude, attributing the team’s success to divine intervention.

“We feel very proud. The God we trusted made it happen. We’re champions in Africa for the third time in the space of two years. Despite the challenges we went through, we did it. It is a massive motivation to everybody that you might not have the support you need but you can go beyond the odds and make it happen,” he said in an interview with 3Sports.

The triumphant Black Challenge team is slated to arrive in Ghana on Tuesday morning, basking in the glory of their championship victory, which has also earned them a coveted spot in the 2026 Amputee World Cup.
