Thousands of Ghanaians have gathered at the Black Stars Square in Accra to witness the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
The iconic venue, which had been closed from December 31, 2024, to January 8, 2025, to prepare for the occasion, is now packed with enthusiastic attendees. Some arrived as early as Tuesday morning, while others spent the night to secure prime seating for the historic event.
Mahama, who served as Vice President under the late John Evans Atta Mills and later as President from 2012 to 2016, secured a decisive victory in the 2024 general election. He defeated his main opponent, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), by over 1.6 million votes.
Today, Mahama will be sworn in alongside his running mate, Professor Jane Nana Opoku-Agyemang, who will make history as Ghana’s first female vice president since its independence in 1957.
The ceremony, which celebrates Mahama’s return to the presidency, is expected to draw government officials, dignitaries, and supporters from across the nation.
