Traditional leaders play a role in nation’s development -Seth Kwame Acheampong

During the year-end general meeting of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs on December 18, 2023, at the Conference Hall of the House in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, acknowledged the substantial contributions of traditional leaders to the nation’s development in various capacities.

 

Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong emphasized the integral role of traditional leadership in Ghanaian culture, aligning it with local governance to foster peace, security, and development at the district and community levels, thereby contributing to national development.

He stressed the importance of providing training and capacity building for traditional leaders to equip them to navigate the complexities of traditional governance. The minister identified key areas for training, including traditional leadership issues, land administration, conflict management, and records and documentation management.

 

Appealing to the House, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong urged intensified efforts in resolving chieftaincy disputes, emphasizing that resolving such conflicts would pave the way for increased development in the region.

Nene Sackitey II, President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs from the Krobo Traditional Area, commended the House for its collective accomplishments in fulfilling administrative functions. He encouraged continued dedication to contributing to the region’s development and emphasized the importance of unity among Chiefs to achieve more in the upcoming years.

The general meeting, attended by all Chiefs and Queen Mothers in the Eastern Region, concluded with Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong presenting gifts to the Chiefs to extend Christmas wishes.
