Transport Fares to Drop by 15% Starting May 24

Transport fares across the country will be reduced by 15% beginning Saturday, May 24, 2025. The move follows an agreement between transport unions and the Ministry of Transport, prompted by the strengthening of the Ghanaian cedi and a notable decline in fuel prices.

The decision comes as operational costs for commercial drivers ease, thanks to the sustained appreciation of the cedi against the US dollar and a sharp drop in fuel costs—two key factors influencing transport pricing.

Speaking to Metrotvonline, Samuel Amoah, Deputy Communications Director of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), confirmed that leaders of various transport unions met earlier today, May 20, to finalize the agreement.

A circular outlining the 15% fare reduction will be distributed to all transport terminals nationwide,” Amoah said, adding, “This is to ensure every driver and conductor is informed and complies with the new fares.”
