While reading the verdict in Manhattan federal court, E. Jean Carroll, a former magazine columnist, held hands with one of her attorneys. A smile came across her face, according to CNN correspondent Kara Scannell, who was in the courtroom. The jury found former President Donald Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll, awarding her approximately $5 million.

Before the verdict, Judge Lewis Kaplan urged those in the courtroom to maintain decorum and refrain from verbal or physical reactions, which they did, as per Scannell. After the verdict, the jury was escorted out. Carroll hugged one of her attorneys while Trump’s attorney Joe Tacopina approached Carroll and her legal team and shook their hands.
