The Ghanaian government has unveiled a new policy allowing travelers from other African nations to enter the country without the need for a visa. This initiative aligns with Ghana’s commitment to the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA), designed to enhance trade and investment across the continent.

President Nana Akufo-Addo introduced the African Prosperity Dialogues, a platform where experts and leaders convened to discuss strategies for achieving economic integration in Africa.

Highlighting that visa-free entry would facilitate the movement of people and goods, President Akufo-Addo emphasized its role in positioning Ghana as a gateway to West Africa. According to the 2023 Africa Visa Openness Index by the African Development Bank, only four African countries—Rwanda, Benin, The Gambia, and Seychelles—have completely eliminated visa requirements for African travelers. Ghana is poised to become the fifth country to adopt this policy.

President Akufo-Addo called on all stakeholders, including traders and artisans, to rally behind the implementation of the AFCFTA, stressing that it would generate opportunities and prosperity for all Africans.
