West Ham United celebrates with Black Sherif

West Ham United chose Black Sherif’s ‘Konongo Zongo’ as their celebratory song after winning the UEFA Conference League on Tiktok. The English team secured their first European trophy by defeating Fiorentina 2-1 in the final. This victory also marked manager David Moyes’ first major trophy achievement in his career.

Despite the absence of Ghanaian players in the team, West Ham’s decision to use Black Sherif’s song to commemorate their win is a source of pride. Black Sherif was recently honored as the Artiste of the Year at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). He has gained recognition across the continent with many hit songs.

In a notable event last year, the Dallas Mavericks, an NBA team, played Black Sherif’s popular song ‘Kwaku the Traveller’ during their pre-game warm-up at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Black Sherif’s debut album, titled The Villain I Never Was, holds the record for the highest number of streams on the audio streaming platform Boomplay Ghana.
