The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) seized a vehicle transporting a minimum of 12,600 slabs of compressed cannabis in the Eastern Region near Dodi.
NACOC conducted an intelligence-led operation on Saturday, December 2, leading to the discovery of the abandoned truck in a bush, as per their statement. Subsequent to a search, the illegal substances were found concealed in chicken feed within the truck’s 180 bags, resulting in the confiscation of 12,600 compressed cannabis slabs.
NACOC is currently overseeing the truck containing the drug exhibits while further investigations are conducted. The statement clarified that no suspects were detained in connection with the seizure.
The public was reminded by NACOC of the prohibition outlined in sections 39–42 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019), which criminalizes the cultivation, importation, exportation, unlawful possession or control, and any business related to narcotic plants.
The statement added, “The special provision relating to cannabis with not more than 0.3% THC content on dry weight basis for industrial purposes for obtaining fibre or seed or for medicinal purposes as enshrined in the Narcotics Control Commission (Amendment) Act, 2023, does not imply the legalization of cannabis.”
