The Member of Parliament for the Okre constituency, who also serves as the Local Government Minister, has announced that the government has secured a $150 million loan from the World Bank. The purpose of this funding is to address the potential spillover of extremism resulting from conflicts on the border lines.
Daniel Kwaku Botwe disclosed that the allocated funds would be utilized for 548 projects, benefiting 48 districts, with the primary goal of enhancing the capacity and resilience of the northern region’s population. He shared this information during a two-day tour, where he assessed the progress of the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Projects (GSCSP) in three Municipalities under the program in the Eastern Region.
The Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, also emphasized the necessity of transitioning towards a decentralized government, expressing concern about the outdated nature of a centralized government. He pointed out that centralized governance tends to be prone to corruption and lacks transparency, accountability, and truthfulness.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin underscored the significance of rural development for the overall progress of the country and urged the government to decentralize its activities. He argued that decentralization would promote proper accountability and foster a sense of ownership of government projects at the local level.
