Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, has officially conceded defeat in the 2024 general elections and congratulated former President John Dramani Mahama on his victory.

In a national address on December 8, 2024, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the provisional results, which indicated a win for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its candidate.

“The people of Ghana have spoken, and we respect their decision with all humility,” he stated, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to maintaining Ghana’s peace and democratic values.

Dr. Bawumia explained that his decision to concede ahead of the official declaration was aimed at reducing tensions and reinforcing Ghana’s reputation as a model of democracy in Africa.

Reflecting on the campaign, he expressed pride in the efforts of his team and gratitude to the NPP for their support, describing the electoral outcome as a testament to the democratic process.

He assured the nation of the NPP’s dedication to facilitating a smooth transition of power and pledged to provide constructive opposition in the interest of national progress.

Encouraging supporters to remain optimistic, Dr. Bawumia remarked, “We may have lost the battle, but not the war.”

He also extended heartfelt thanks to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his family, campaign team, and loyal supporters for their unwavering support throughout the campaign.
