The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has emphasized that the Commission has no involvement in decisions regarding the use of force or security arrangements during elections.
Her remarks follow an announcement by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) that military personnel would be deployed to specific areas to ensure election security. The GAF clarified that no military officers would be stationed directly at polling centers.
Speaking at a press conference on December 7, Madam Mensa reiterated the EC’s limited role in security matters. “In terms of security, we have no hand in it and we do not make security arrangements,” she stated.
This clarification aims to address public concerns and ensure a clear understanding of the distinct responsibilities of the Electoral Commission and security agencies in maintaining order during the election process.
