Aggrieved customers of the defunct gold dealership firm, Menzgold Ghana Limited, have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the government, demanding a bailout of GH¢2 million from their locked-up funds to ease their financial distress.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the customers warned that failure to meet their demands would result in a collective decision to vote against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December 7 elections.
This ultimatum adds to a series of similar demands by Menzgold customers since 2019, urging the government to address the status of their locked-up investments. Despite years of appeals, the customers have yet to recover their funds following the company’s shutdown in September 2018.
The Coalition of Aggrieved Menzgold Customers, leading the charge, continues to push for government intervention, emphasizing the urgent need for relief. The group has also proposed the establishment of a dedicated commission to oversee the payment process and ensure transparency.
The collapse of Menzgold has had devastating consequences, including reported cases of financial ruin, suicides, and deaths linked to the hardships caused by the locked-up funds.
According to the customers, the bailout is a critical step to mitigate their suffering and hold the government accountable for what they describe as a failure to protect citizens from the company’s fraudulent operations. They are urging swift action, citing the prolonged delay as a breach of trust and responsibility.
