The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has reported 31 new cases of COVID-19 in the country over the past week. According to Dr. Kwame Amponsah-Achiano, the Programmes Manager at the Expanded Programme on Immunization, these cases are not severe.

Speaking to the media in Accra, Dr. Amponsah-Achiano stated that the Ghana Health Service is launching a vaccination campaign starting on Sunday, May 5, to help curb the spread of the virus.

“In the past week, we have observed a significant increase in cases, with about 30 or 31 new cases recorded. However, this is not unexpected. As we have emphasized before, COVID-19 is now a part of our reality. Therefore, we continue to prioritize vaccination efforts,” he explained.

“We are initiating a national COVID-19 vaccination campaign from May 5th to May 9th as part of our strategy to minimize the spread of the virus and protect our population,” he added.
