Abel Dzidotor, a 41-year-old truck driver who abandoned his vehicle on the Tema-Mpakadan rail lines, has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Juapong Circuit Court.

Dzidotor pleaded guilty to three out of four charges, which included negligent and reckless driving, unauthorized halting, and causing injury. His guilty plea led to his conviction.

Considering his marital status and having three children, the court, presided over by His Honour Prosper Deu-Love Gormashie, took this into account when determining the appropriate sentence.

For the first charge of reckless driving, Dzidotor was fined 100 penalty units, equivalent to GHc1,200, and in default, he would serve twenty months in prison.

He was fined 20 penalty units, or GHc240, for the second charge of unauthorized stopping.

Regarding the third charge of unlawful damage, Dzidotor was sentenced to six months of hard labor.

All sentences are to run concurrently, meaning Dzidotor will serve a maximum custodial sentence of six months.

Additionally, he was ordered to pay a fine of GHc1,200 in addition to the jail sentence.
