Pensioners Picket for Payments

ok

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu, has urged the government to delay the payment of salaries to the political class including ministers, MPs and other government officials, to enable it to pay pensioner bondholders.

According to his statement, older adults rely solely on their investments in government bonds to sustain themselves, cover their medical expenses, and support their dependents. It is disheartening to witness these elderly individuals persistently protesting and pleading for the release of their investment returns.

He expressed his willingness for the government to delay the salaries of active politicians, including MPs and ministers, to prioritize the payment of pensioners. He emphasized the need to reduce the size of the government and cut unnecessary expenses, such as fuel coupons, official travel, and the cathedral secretariat, which scandals have marred. He pointed out that the president favors large-scale initiatives and a bloated government.

Members of the Pensioner Bondholders Forum have been staging daily protests at the Finance Ministry from 10 am to 11 am, demanding the settlement of approximately 19 coupons and three outstanding principal amounts.
