The death of an 80-year-old woman occurred when she attempted to intervene in a dispute between her son and his wife. The son, identified as Wuni Haruna, shot his mother after retrieving a gun during the altercation. The incident took place last Thursday in Guabulga, within the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region.
The deceased, named Wuni Tuunaaba, has been laid to rest under Islamic customs. Wuni Haruna is currently in police custody. According to Bugri Gabriel, the Assembly member of the Guabulga Electoral Area, the altercation occurred at approximately 7 pm on Thursday, June 15, 2023. Haruna’s mother intervened to restore peace, but Haruna retrieved a single-barrel gun from a nearby room and fatally shot his mother.
The assembly member received a distress call regarding the shooting and confirmed the incident. Haruna claimed he intended to fire a warning shot but accidentally struck his mother with the bullet. The police have apprehended the suspect for further investigation, while the deceased has already been buried.
