Professor Stephen Asare, widely known as Kwaku Azar, has called on the 9th Parliament to prioritize significant structural reforms in response to the outcomes of the recent elections.
In a Facebook post, Professor Azar noted that the shift from a split parliament to a supermajority reflects “deep frustration with the current governance system.” He described the swing as both a mandate and a call to action for the new Parliament to drive meaningful change.
Among the reforms he proposed are local government restructuring, legal education reforms, judicial overhaul, the establishment of a comprehensive code of conduct for public officials, financial management reforms, campaign finance regulations, and robust anti-corruption measures.
In addition, Professor Azar urged the outgoing 8th Parliament to expedite the passage of the Constitution Amendment Bill, 2021, and ensure it is forwarded to the President for assent without delay.
“This is a critical moment for governance, and Parliament must rise to the occasion,” he emphasized.
