The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has formally requested a minute’s silence to be observed in memory of the late Asante Kotoko legend, Ernest Papa Arko, ahead of all 2023/24 MTN FA Cup Round of 64 matches.
Ernest Papa Arko, the former captain of Asante Kotoko SC, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, following a brief illness. In recognition of his significant contributions to Asante Kotoko and Ghanaian football, the GFA has instructed clubs and stakeholders to honor his memory with a minute of silence before the kickoff of all MTN FA Cup Round of 64 matches. These matches are scheduled to take place between Tuesday, November 28, and Thursday, November 30, 2023.
Papa Arko, who captained Asante Kotoko in the early 80s, played a pivotal role in leading the team to victory in the Africa Cup of Champions Club Competition (now CAF Champions League) in 1983. He also contributed to Asante Kotoko’s triumph in the 1984 edition of the FA Cup, where they emerged victorious against Goldfields in the final match. The GFA’s gesture of observing a minute’s silence serves as a symbolic tribute to the late football icon.
