Ghanaians’ favorite meal is fufu and soup, a dish originally from the Akan people. Using boiled cassava and plantains, fufu is made by pounding them into a smooth paste. It is also possible to find fufu in Northern Ghana, although it is commonly prepared with yam. Among other things, fufu complements well with peanut soup, light soup, and palm nut soup. Various soups can be made with the following ingredients:

So here’s what you need for the soup:

  • Chicken – whole chicken, chicken thighs and chicken drumsticks will work just fine.

  • Peanut butter – peanut butter made with just peanuts and salt.

  • Onion, ginger and garlic – the secret ingredients that make the soup savory

  • Tomatoes – either fresh or canned. As an additional flavor and color, add tomato paste.

  • Pepper – habanero pepper. Red chili, cayenne pepper or any other hot pepper can also be used.

  • Salt – needed for taste

  • Goat meat – A pound or two should be enough, depending on family size

  • Garden eggs – are used to thicken the soup

  • Onion, ginger and garlic – the secret ingredients that make the soup savory

  • Tomatoes – paste, fresh or canned tomatoes.

  • Pepper – fresh habanero peppers are usually the most flavorful.

  • Salt – needed for taste

  • Meat/Fish – Either meat, fish or both can be used

  • Palm nuts extract – frozen or fresh

  • Onion, ginger and garlic – ingredients that make soup tasty

  • Tomatoes – fresh or canned tomatoes.

  • Pepper – fresh habanero peppers are usually the most flavorful.

  • Salt – needed for taste
