According to the indictment, New York Representative George Santos is facing accusations of fraudulent activity related to his application for unemployment benefits. The indictment claims Santos falsely represented himself as unemployed in an application for a pandemic-related unemployment insurance program.

Prosecutors assert Santos claimed to have been unemployed since March 2020 in his application, but evidence suggests he was actually employed at an investment firm. During his employment, Santos allegedly received regular deposits as part of his $120,000 annual salary, except for a period in July and August 2020.

The indictment further alleges Santos was employed at the firm from February 2020 to mid-April 2021. However, because of his repeated false statements to the unemployment program, Santos is also accused of receiving $24,744 in benefits, as stated by prosecutors.
