
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has praised South Africa’s longstanding commitment to advancing Africa’s peace, security, development, and integration agenda during a high-level meeting with H.E. Ambassador Nonceba Losi, South Africa’s Permanent Representative to Ethiopia and the African Union.
The meeting, held at the African Union headquarters, provided an opportunity for both leaders to discuss a range of continental issues and reaffirm their shared commitment to the African Union’s strategic objectives.
During the discussions, Chairperson Youssouf commended South Africa’s consistent contribution to the work of the African Union and its unwavering support for the continent’s collective aspirations. He highlighted the country’s role in promoting regional stability, economic development, and deeper African integration.
The two officials also exchanged views on recent developments across the continent, including migration-related issues and other common challenges facing African nations. Both sides emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue, responsible public discourse, and sustained cooperation in addressing these issues and advancing Africa’s development priorities.
A key focus of the meeting was South Africa’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at preserving and digitizing the African Union’s archives. Chairperson Youssouf welcomed the initiative, describing it as a vital step toward safeguarding the Union’s institutional memory and preserving its historical legacy for future generations.
The preservation and digitization project is expected to strengthen access to important historical records while ensuring that the African Union’s rich history remains protected and accessible in an increasingly digital era.
For her part, Ambassador Losi commended Chairperson Youssouf’s leadership of the African Union Commission and praised his efforts to advance the Union’s priorities across the continent. She reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to working closely with the Commission in support of the African Union’s vision for a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated Africa.
The meeting underscored the strong partnership between South Africa and the African Union Commission, as both sides reiterated their dedication to strengthening continental cooperation and promoting solutions to Africa’s most pressing challenges.
