The soldiers stormed Ashaiman, a suburb of Accra, since midnight, allegedly brutalizing residents. An unknown assailant allegedly stabbed their colleague to death in the area days earlier.
Several videos on social media show a young man screaming amid flogging, while a neighbour silently films.
A muddy puddle created by the early morning rains forced some residents to roll on the ground. It was ‘unofficial curfew,’ according to Ashaiman MP Ernest Norgbey. A report says soldiers are flogged and manhandled who flout their orders. In the meantime, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have not responded.
