During her criminal trial, Aisha Huang, a prominent figure in illegal mining, refuted any involvement in mining activities or supporting mining operations, as stated in her witness statement.
Aisha Huang, who unlawfully returned to Ghana after being deported in 2018, is currently facing charges for engaging in unlicensed illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
The prosecution presented 11 witnesses who testified to her participation in illegal mining, specifically in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.
Nevertheless, Aisha Huang maintains that her company has never been involved in mining operations and has no mining license. She argues that the evidence put forth by the prosecution is untrue.
In March 2023, Huang Lei, Aisha Huang’s son, pleaded guilty to overstaying his permit in Ghana, possessing ammunition without lawful authority, and possessing forged official documents. He was convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of GH¢10,800.
Huang Lei and other Chinese nationals were apprehended in November of the previous year for the same offenses. Initially, they had pleaded not guilty before Justice Lydia Osei Marfo.
However, on December 16, 2022, Huang Lei’s lawyer disclosed plans for his client to change his plea to guilty.
Aisha Huang’s son pleaded guilty before Justice Comfort Tasiame at criminal court 4. As a result, the court imposed a fine of GH¢10,800 on him and ordered his deportation.
