During great apathy and minimal advertising, Alan Kyerematen achieved an unprecedented turnout for his Aduru Woso Health Walk, showcasing his distinct brand. With over 350,000 attendees, this historic event left an indelible mark on Ghana’s political landscape.
Before this, a similar effort took place in Kumasi, the country’s most populated and cosmopolitan city. No politician, independent of their political party or the government, had ever achieved such a feat.
Following the walk, the Bawumia camp made frantic but misplaced efforts to bolster their campaign. They organized programs like Youth Delegates for Bawumia and Women Delegates Conference for Bawumia. At the same time, some MPs and ministers held not-so-secret meetings led by Dr. Ayew Afriyie to show support for Alhaji. Despite these commendable efforts, they failed to acknowledge the obvious truth that the masses are enamored with and yearn for Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen. Alan possesses a formidable brand that could break the 8-year cycle and lead the NPP to victory in the next election. At his walk, Deputy Finance Minister Abena Osei-Asare also unsettled certain foundations.
Dr. Ayew Afriyie even mentioned her name in a press-invited meeting, highlighting her reputation for character and credibility that aligns with Alan’s integrity, honesty, action, and unification brand.
As showed earlier, the ruling party is likely to face apathy, as revealed by a poll conducted by Global Info Analytics. Most respondents who stated they wouldn’t vote in 2024 belong to the NPP. Therefore, what is needed is a candidate with enough popularity to inspire votes not only from NPP supporters but also from floating voters, thus minimizing apathy.
H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his desire to hand power to an NPP government. The recent march must have given him hope that this desire is achievable, as Alan Kyerematen showed, while others merely discuss it. If I were the president, I would be greatly encouraged to urge other aspirants to support Alan.
For delegates, voting for Alan alleviates the burden of marketing since ordinary Ghanaians are already advocating for him. Conversely, supporting any alternative would require extensive troubleshooting and firefighting. Alan’s brand naturally attracts people, making it easier for the NPP to win the upcoming election. As a delegate, you wouldn’t have to spend time making excuses for the candidate, making him an easy sell.
The NPP’s primary opponents, the NDC, have refrained from commenting on the walk. They were caught off guard, just as unprepared for Alan’s candidacy. Their focus has been on promoting Alhaji Bawumia to NPP delegates. Deep down, they fear Alan as the candidate they struggle to criticize. With Alan, they would be compelled to engage in an issue-based campaign, whereas with Alhaji, they can easily exploit his speeches and play the religious card (as nothing is sacred to the NDC).
Even before officially launching his campaign, Alan has outlined his Great Transformational Plan (GTP) as a blueprint for driving Ghana’s economic growth and job creation. His background in industry uniquely qualifies him to lead Ghana toward a brighter future.
