The National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah, is scheduled to appear before Parliament on November 9, 2023, to address questions concerning the alleged military attacks on residents of Garu and Tempane in the Upper East Region.
Following an incident in which over 50 people were hospitalized after alleged violence by military personnel against Garu residents, calls from Members of Parliament for an investigation prompted the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, to direct the National Security Minister to provide a briefing to the legislators.

Asiamah stated, “At the moment, what I want to do is to invite the Minister to appear before the entire house, come and brief us. Probably what we are hearing is different from what the Minister has at his sleeves. So let us invite the Minister to appear before the house, he will come and brief the house, and we will take it on from there.”
He continued, “So I am asking that the Minister appear before the house on Thursday the 9th of November 2023 to brief the house concerning issues related to happenings at Garu and Tempane.”

The Minister’s appearance in Parliament is expected to provide clarification regarding the alleged attacks and the government’s response to the situation.
In a separate development, it has been reported that one of the victims of the recent military violence in Garu and Tempane has passed away. The Member of Parliament (MP) for Garu, Albert Alalzuulga, announced the unfortunate death and also noted that eight individuals who had been arrested were released.

Alalzuulga expressed his disappointment in the military’s actions and called for compensation for the victims, adding that legal action may be taken. He emphasized the need for the government to address the situation, expressing concern that the military’s behavior suggested taking Ghanaians for granted, despite the fact that it is taxpayers’ money that funds their equipment and operations.
