Renowned author of ‘The Dilemma of a Ghost’ and former Education Minister, Ama Ata Aidoo, has passed away. Born on March 23, 1942, the poet, playwright, and academic died peacefully at home on Wednesday, according to her family. In a press statement, the family expressed deep sorrow but hoped for the resurrection as they informed the public of her passing after a brief illness on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. The family head, Kwamena Essandoh Aidoo, said funeral arrangements would be announced later.

One of the most prominent African writers of the 20th and 21st centuries, Ama Ata Aidoo, enjoyed an illustrious career that spanned over five decades. After attending Wesley Girls’ Senior High School in Cape Coast from 1961 to 1964, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Ghana, Legon. Her first play, ‘The Dilemma of a Ghost,’ was written while she was there.
