As we go through tough times, let’s count our blessings – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo is urging Ghanaians to find a silver lining in the ongoing cloud of economic hardship.

According to him, the implications of the crisis could have been significantly worse, judging by events elsewhere. Ghana is currently banging on the doors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout amid intensifying hardship, a rising cost of living and a depreciating cedi.

For him, other countries struggling through a similar predicament have seen chronic shortages and winding queues at fuel stations.

It might be a good idea to also count our blessings and to see how we are managing our difficulties together. We’ve all seen the images around the world. Here in Ghana, we have not had any fuel queues. We have not suffered shortages of food and essential items or the catastrophe of dumsor,” he said on Monday.

During the Volta Region’s 66th Independence Day celebration, he made the following comments. His administration’s resolve to find a solution was also conveyed to the gathering by President Akufo-Addo.

“They are being addressed,” he said.

A $3 billion bailout deal has been reached with the IMF at staff level. March 6, 1957 marked Ghana’s independence from colonial rule. There were many struggles on the path to emancipation, with many nationals sacrificing their lives.

Each year, Ghanaians commemorate independence and evaluate the progress of the country on 6th of March.

Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose is the theme of this year’s celebration.
