The Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has stepped in to address the legal disputes challenging the reappointment of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson.

During a meeting on Friday, August 30, 2024, Otumfuo appealed to the plaintiffs, Isaac Mensah, a stores superintendent in the university’s Procurement Department, and Clement Ohene Asare, an alumnus, both of whom had filed separate lawsuits at the Kumasi High Court opposing the Vice-Chancellor’s reappointment, urging them to withdraw their cases.

Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson began her two-year tenure extension on August 1, 2024. However, her reappointment faced legal challenges, with some individuals deeming it unlawful.

Speaking on Monday in Kumasi, KNUST’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, expressed the university’s relief and gratitude for the Asantehene’s intervention. “The University is excited that Otumfuo has stepped in, bringing us much-needed relief and peace, allowing us to continue our work in a harmonious environment and further the positive achievements the university has made over the years.

“We are thankful to Otumfuo and all other stakeholders, including the plaintiffs and their lawyers,” he added.
