DCOP Frank Abrokwa, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, has been relieved of his duties following the violent disruption of the Council of State election in Kumasi on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, sources at Police Headquarters have confirmed to Original TV News.
He has been reassigned to the Accra Police Headquarters, though details of his new role remain undisclosed.
The chaos erupted when unknown thugs stormed the voting center, disrupting the sorting and counting of ballots. According to reports from Original TV, the attackers destroyed ballot boxes, overturned tables, and scattered voting materials, forcing Electoral Commission (EC) officials to halt the process.
The violence is believed to have been triggered by the unexpected defeat of National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, who was widely seen as the front-runner. Angry supporters, dissatisfied with the outcome, allegedly instigated the unrest and demanded a review of the results.
Authorities are yet to announce any arrests, but investigations into the incident are ongoing.
