On Sunday, October 27, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, the Member of Parliament for Agona West Constituency, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Agona Nyakrom.
While campaigning around 7:40 pm, an unidentified gunman targeted the former Gender Minister but missed, injuring another individual instead. The attack took place during a power outage, which added to the confusion. Morrison and her team quickly took shelter at a nearby police station to report the incident.
The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and authorities have launched an investigation into the attempted assassination.
This incident follows a recent decision by a District Magistrate Court in Agona Swedru to lift an injunction against Morrison’s candidacy. She had shifted to an independent bid for the Agona West seat, citing unfair treatment within her party.
