The ongoing Baby Jet U-16 African football tournament is currently being held at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, showcasing 32 teams representing various African countries. This tournament is a valuable platform for young talents to exhibit their skills in front of international scouts, potentially opening doors for professional contracts.

The week-long event kicked off with an impressive opening ceremony last Tuesday night. A stunning fireworks display and a captivating brass bass performance marked the beginning of the 30-minute ceremony. Following this, the teams took to the field to commence their warm-ups, preparing themselves for the upcoming matches.

Asamoah Gyan, the former captain of the Black Stars and CEO of Baby Jets, delivered an inspiring speech during the ceremony. Gyan encouraged the players to give their all and strive for excellence, stressing the importance of hard work and determination to succeed. He reminded them that while not everyone would achieve it, those who dedicate themselves and stay focused can accomplish remarkable feats in football.
Gyan also emphasized the tournament’s philanthropic objective of giving back to society by providing opportunities for young talents to shine.

In the opening match, Ofori Academy from Takoradi emerged victorious over Jayash FC from Ablekuma, Accra, winning 5-4 in a penalty shootout.
