On Thursday, Speaker Alban Bagbin led a parliamentary delegation in a visit to the palace of the Bimbilla regent, Yakubu Andani Dasana.
This courtesy call is part of the Rt Hon Speaker’s initiative to bring Parliament closer to the people, especially as Ghana marks 30 years of uninterrupted parliamentary democracy.
Upon welcoming the Speaker and his delegation to the palace and the region, the Bimbilla regent emphasized ongoing efforts to foster unity for the region’s development. He commended Speaker Bagbin for his leadership in Parliament, citing it as a shining example for many young people.
In his address, Speaker Bagbin, drawing on a proverbial analogy of disagreements coexisting, encouraged the people to prioritize living in peace and harmony, emphasizing the importance of contributing to the development of their communities.
Acknowledging his ancestral connection to Bimbilla, the Speaker highlighted the significance of chieftaincy in Ghana’s governance structure and advocated for the inclusion of traditional leaders in the governance system.
On Friday, Speaker Bagbin is scheduled to meet with members of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs. Additionally, he will address a public forum at the GM Afeti Auditorium at the Ho Technical University.
As part of the regional celebrations, a mock Parliamentary sitting is slated for Saturday at the Ho Nurses Training College.
