The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced the initiation of its annual ban on drumming and noise-making activities within its jurisdiction.
Scheduled to commence from Monday, May 6th to Thursday, June 6th, 2024, the ban aims to uphold peace, harmony, and national security in the metropolis. The following guidelines have been established:
- Churches are required to conduct their activities exclusively within their premises without the use of musical instruments.
- Loudspeakers outside churches, mosques, and pubs are prohibited during this period. Roadside evangelism is also suspended.
- Religious organizations and Traditional Authorities are urged to exhibit mutual respect and discourage their followers from making derogatory or inflammatory remarks about each other’s beliefs and practices.
- The Ga Traditional Council (GTC) additionally imposes a ban on funeral rites and associated activities.
- Only an identifiable task force, comprising AMA personnel, the Ghana Police Service, and representatives from Traditional Councils with tags, are authorized to enforce the reduction of noise in the metropolis.
The AMA appeals to all individuals, communities, and villages within the Ga Traditional Area to cooperate and adhere to these directives throughout the specified period.
