NPP to Receive Vetting Committee Report on September 29

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will on September 29 receive the official report of its vetting committee, marking a crucial step in the party’s race to select a presidential candidate for the 2026 general election.

The week-long vetting exercise begins today, September 23, with all five aspirants appearing before party elders to be assessed on their eligibility. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President, is scheduled to face the committee today. The final report will be presented to the National Council and National Executive Council for consideration.

Aspirants dissatisfied with the committee’s findings will have a window between September 30 and October 3 to lodge appeals. Party leadership will then meet on October 7 to resolve disputes before publishing the final list of approved candidates on October 8.

The ballot order will be determined by a draw on October 10, followed by the issuance of the official election notice on October 17.

The five contenders vying for the NPP’s presidential slot are:

  • Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong

  • Ken Ohene Agyapong

  • Dr. Bryan Acheampong

  • Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

  • Former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum

The process began in late July when nominations opened, with all aspirants submitting their completed forms by the August 28 deadline.

The party has scheduled the presidential primary for January 31, 2026. Should no candidate secure an outright victory, a run-off between the top two candidates will be held on February 14, 2026.

Party leaders have called on aspirants and their supporters to conduct their campaigns with decorum and respect, emphasizing unity as the NPP prepares for what promises to be a highly competitive contest.
