Burger Highlife king, George Darko has passed away

Renowned Highlife musician and icon of Burger Highlife, George Darko, has passed away.

The beloved singer, famously known for his hit song “Akoo te Brofo,” reportedly passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

Details regarding the cause of his death are currently undisclosed.

 

George Darko held a significant position within the Akropong community, having been enstooled as the Tufuhene of Akropong under the stool name Nana Apem Darko I.

A multifaceted artist, Darko was not only a guitarist but also a vocalist, composer, and songwriter, making his mark on the music scene since the late 1960s.

 

Throughout the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, George Darko remained a prominent figure in Ghanaian music, with his songs standing the test of time and retaining their popularity within the country’s music circles. His contributions to Highlife music have left an indelible mark on Ghanaian culture, ensuring his legacy lives on for generations to come.
