The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the National Peace Council, Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II the clergy, and all concerned Ghanaians to urge the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct an independent forensic audit of the voters’ register.
The party claims that the current register contains several inconsistencies that could jeopardize the integrity of the upcoming elections.
According to the NDC, fair and credible elections cannot be assured if the voters’ register remains flawed.
Speaking after a demonstration on Tuesday, George Opare Addo, the NDC’s National Youth Organizer, emphasized the importance of this audit. He pointed out that a petition presented by the party’s Eastern Regional Chairman to the regional EC office underlined the urgency of the issue.
Addo called on advocates for peace to press the EC for a comprehensive audit of the voters’ register.
“To all peace-loving Ghanaians, the chiefs, Otumfuo, and others who seek a better Ghana, this is your call to action. The Police Service also has a duty to ensure that the right procedures are followed.”
Addressing the Peace Council, he added, “We urge you to take action. An audit is the proper and necessary step forward.”
