The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is expected to appear before the Kumasi Traditional Council following reported disparaging remarks about the Asantehene. The controversy arose after a confrontation with the Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Dua, during the candidate screening for the Ashanti region’s parliament.
The Asante Kingdom’s second-highest decision-making authority has called for Chairman Wontumi’s arrest in response to the incident. Despite citing health concerns, Chairman Wontumi failed to attend a hearing before the traditional council, maintaining his denial of the allegations.
Despite his request for additional time, the national leadership of the NPP has been directed to ensure his appearance within a week. A meeting has been scheduled for this morning at 11:00 a.m., as indicated in the invitation letter from the Council.
