Coach Winfried Schaeffer arrives in Ghana

GERRRRRRR

German coach Winfried Schaeffer has arrived in Ghana to officially begin his role as Technical Advisor for the Black Stars, providing a major boost ahead of next month’s FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

Schaeffer landed in Accra on Monday night, where he was received by Black Stars Assistant Coach Desmond Ofei.

Appointed in January, the veteran coach will offer technical guidance and play a key role in developing football in Ghana. His duties include collaborating with the Technical Directorate to implement long-term strategic plans for the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

With a 40-year managerial career, Schaeffer brings a wealth of experience, including leading Cameroon to victory in the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations.

His arrival comes at a crucial time as Ghana prepares for must-win World Cup qualifiers in March. The Black Stars currently sit second in their qualification group with 9 points from 4 matches, level with group leaders Comoros, but trailing on goal difference.

Schaeffer’s expertise is expected to be instrumental as Ghana pushes for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
