Committee set to investigate petitions filed against Chief Justice

President John Dramani Mahama has established a committee to investigate petitions filed against Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.

The committee, set up in accordance with Article 146(6) of the Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, will inquire into the petitions.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President, said in a statement that the committee was initiated following the establishment of a prima facie case in response to three separate petitions seeking her removal from office.

The committee’s composition includes:

  • Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, Justice of the Supreme Court (Chairman
  • Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu, Justice of the Supreme Court (Member)
  • Daniel Yaw Domelevo, Former Auditor-General (Member)
  • Major Flora Bazwaanura Dalugo, Ghana Armed Forces (Member)
  • Professor James Sefah Dzisah, Associate Professor, University of Ghana (Member)

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has been suspended from office with immediate effect, pending the committe’s report for further actions. In the meantime, senior supreme court judge Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has assumed the role of Chief Justice.
