The Ghana Football Association’s scheduled congress, originally planned for October 5, 2023, has been postponed due to a court-ordered adjournment related to the dispute between King Faisal Football Club and the football governing body. The new date for the court case is now Thursday, October 12, 2023.
Initially, the GFA had intended to hold its congress in Tamale on September 27, 2023. However, King Faisal filed for an injunction on the process, leading the committee to reschedule the assembly for early next month.
King Faisal, a relegated team from the Ghana Premier League, seeks to maintain this restraint until elections for representatives of National League clubs, Regional Football Associations, and related bodies are completed. Additionally, the club asserts that a valid Congress cannot be conducted to elect the President until new representatives for the Executive Council (Exco) are duly elected.
Furthermore, King Faisal argues that opening nominations for the GFA President’s election before Exco elections are held is both incorrect and unlawful. They also seek a declaration that any resolution passed by the current Exco concerning the GFA President’s election before Exco representatives are chosen constitutes a breach of trust, confidence, and loyalty.
As a result, the outcome of the elections, which could see Mr. Okraku continue his tenure as FA President immediately after the Congress, is contingent upon the Court’s ruling on this matter.
