Court sets April 16, 2024 on the Mankessim case

The Cape Coast High Court II, under the jurisdiction of His Lordship John-Mark Nuku Alifo, has scheduled Tuesday, April 16, 2024, for the formation of a jury in the case involving the murder of Georgina Asor Botchwey, a 25-year-old aspiring nurse.

This decision was reached during the case management conference held on Thursday, with all concerned parties in attendance. The conference took place behind closed doors.

 

Present at the conference were Madam Monica Geraldo-Delima, Assistant State Attorney, represented by Vincent Nyineku, the Principal State Attorney for the prosecution. Also in attendance were Mr. Daniel Amosa, standing in for Mr. Roland Hamilton as defense counsel for the second accused, and Michael Monney representing the first accused.

 

The accused individuals, Christopher Ekow Clark Quansah, also known as Nana Clark, a 65-year-old trader, and Michael Darko, a 48-year-old pastor, were present during the proceedings.

The court agreed to summon the pathologist who conducted the autopsy on the deceased to testify regarding the findings. Additionally, the prosecution requested interpreters proficient in the Akan language.

Following the conference, the case was adjourned to Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

 

Nana Clark and Darko are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder and murder for their alleged involvement in Asor’s death in Mankessim. They entered pleas of not guilty to these charges, as well as to three additional charges related to the unlawful possession of explosives, firearms, and ammunition, during their appearance before the Cape Coast High Court II on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

Despite an application for bail submitted by their legal representatives, the court denied it. Furthermore, the judge instructed the prosecution to provide all necessary disclosures and witness statements to the defense within two weeks before the March 14 hearing, with the aim of expediting the trial process.
