The Coalition of La Youth Associations has issued a warning to the government, urging it to demonstrate a steadfast commitment to the reconstruction of La General Hospital. The coalition has hinted at lingering doubts about the sustained dedication to completing the project, despite the recent commencement of work at the previously stalled construction site.
The commencement of work followed the government’s assurance, conveyed during the presentation of the 2024 Budget in Parliament on November 15, 2023, by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. The Finance Minister confirmed successful renegotiations with the contractor and the allocation of funds from the national budget for the La General Hospital project.
While the recent activity by the contractor is acknowledged, concerns persist among members of the Coalition of La Youth Associations regarding the consistency of progress in the construction process. Jeffrey Tetteh, spokesperson for the La Youth Association, expressed skepticism, stating, “We are still not convinced that the government is committed to doing this project.”
Tetteh further emphasized that the coalition will closely monitor the project’s developments, and he assured the media that progress is expected to be at a slow pace. The caution from the Coalition highlights the need for continued scrutiny and vigilance to ensure the timely and successful completion of the La General Hospital reconstruction.
