The Court of Appeal has acquitted and discharged former Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and businessman Richard Jakpa in a case of alleged financial loss to the state.
In a 2-1 majority decision on Tuesday, July 30, the court found that the trial judge, Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, erred in her decision to require the accused to open their defense on March 30, 2023. Justices Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo and Philip Bright Mensah granted the appeal, acquitting and discharging the accused, while Presiding Judge Justice Poku Acheampong dissented.
The two were accused of causing financial loss to the state in a case related to the purchase of ambulances for the National Ambulance Service.
