Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, is dedicated to placing the “blue economy” at the forefront of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) agenda for the upcoming general election.

The concept of the “blue economy” focuses on promoting economic growth and effectively utilizing resources, such as food and energy, while preserving and managing freshwater and marine environments.

Dr. Bawumia, while speaking at the University of Cape Coast’s 3rd Conference on Fisheries and Coastal Environment, revealed that the government has secured a $150 million loan from the World Bank specifically to combat coastal erosion.

“The government has secured a $150 million loan from the World Bank to strengthen the West Africa coastal area program and address the escalating issue of coastal degradation in our coastal regions,” he disclosed.

This loan will support various initiatives associated with the blue economy, including the growth of aquaculture, the promotion of blue tourism, and the implementation of sustainable fishing practices.

The Vice President emphasized the immense potential of the blue economy to significantly boost Ghana’s economy and generate numerous new job opportunities.

“It is imperative that we seize the potential that the blue economy holds. By embracing it, we have the opportunity to create millions of jobs and unlock billions of dollars in revenue for our nation,” he stated.
