‘Dumsor’ Demonstration to happen

The Ghana Elections Project, a newly formed group, has declared its intention to stage a protest against the prevailing power crisis, locally known as “dumsor,” in the nation.

The populace of Ghana has been grappling with persistent challenges in power supply, adversely affecting businesses across the country.

Despite the recurring power outages, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured that there are no plans to implement a load-shedding schedule.

In a statement released on Thursday, March 21, the Ghana Elections Project outlined its plan to protest, aiming to exert pressure on authorities to enforce a structured load-shedding timetable.

According to excerpts from the statement, the objective of the protest is to compel the government to ensure the release of a dumsor 2024 timetable by the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited.

Furthermore, the demonstration seeks to urge President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration to address the power crisis in the nation promptly.

As part of the protest activities, the group intends to submit a petition to the Ministry of Energy and the Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC), demanding comprehensive solutions to the power challenges affecting all Ghanaians.

The group emphasizes that the protest is non-partisan, aiming to unite Ghanaians in pursuit of a common goal.

Details of the demonstration are below:

Date: Friday, April 26, 2024

Time: 6:30 am prompt

Convening point: Obra Spot at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
